Even if it represents a massive structure corresponding to the Romanesque architecture, the Cathedral of Viana, whose constructions started in the 15th century, is without doubt, a work influenced by the gothic tradition.
The Museum of Traditional Clothes
Located in the heart of the historical center, the building of the former Bank of Portugal, shelters since 2004, the Museum of Traditional Clothes which allows you to know the ethnographic wealth of the traditional clothes of Viana.
The Saint Lucia Basilica
The temple of the Holy Heart of Jesus built on the west spur of the Saint Lucia Mountain, from where it dominates and “blesses” the city is, without doubt, one of the most famous and symbolic monuments of the country.
The Gil Eannes Ship
Built in 1955 in Viana do Castelo, the hospital-ship Gil Eannes, has seconded, during decades, the codfisher fleet which was on the Newfoundland and Greenlandic banks.
The Municipal Museum
Installed in a distinguished stately mansion of the 18th century, the Municipal Museum of Viana do Castelo has one of the most important and precious collections of old Portuguese earthenware of the 17th and 18th centuries.
